Water Life
We reached southern Alaska. The coast is dotted with the homes and working piers of the men and women that go out and pull in fish and crabs for a living. This one is near Ketchikan, Alaska.
American Bald Eagle
Annette Island or Taak'w Aan (Tlingit) is in far southeastern Alaska near Ketchikan. It has a large concentration of Bald Eagles in its old-growth temperate rainforest.
Alaskan Pigeons
I've heard it said, eagles in Alaska are like pigeons everywhere else because of their numbers. These twelve are just a fraction of the ones here. After traveling the state, this isn't a normal sight. They do congregate where there is food. Lots of fish here.
On the Prowl
An eagle flies along the shores of Annette Island, Alaska.
Perched
Photos from an excursion to Annette Island, Alaska. Here four eagles are perched on a limb looking over the shore.
Checking Out the Pot
Fishermen check out their catch. Normally, these pots can weigh anywhere from 600-800 pounds each. Depending on the size of the fishing boat, crews will have between 150 and 300 pots per boat. This is just a small one for show.
Keeper
This Alaskan King Crab meets the minimum measurements and is a keeper. Aleutian Ballad, Ketchikan, Alaska

Tossing Pots Out
After emptying the crab catch, the pots are bailted and then thrown back out.
Aleutian Ballad
This is looking to shore from where the fishermen were pulling in their crab pot. Not a soul in sight!

Tom took a helicopter excursion to Denver Glacier, Alaska. This is a video flying over the Coast Range to the glacier.
We begin our hike along the glacier.
A crevice in the glacier is called a moulin. Here you can see the deep blue the deeper you get. One of our guides gave us a small chunk of ice and we could see blue specs in the ice. Blue is the color of pure glacier ice, compacted with few air bubbles since the air is squeezed out from the weight of the ice. Like sapphires, glacial ice reflects the blue colors of the light spectrum, so beautiful blue color reached our eyes.
