Old & Crooked

Dawson City in Yukon Territory doesn't pave side streets and their sidewalks are wood. This is because of the constant shifting of the permafrost. The old buildings are all leaning because they sit right on the ground.

Back Alley

I was walking through an alley in Dawson City, Yukon and came across this awesome conglomeration of old buildings. This city has a very high cost of living because of the expensive daily household essentials like food. Groceries and other foodstuffs can be pricey here and even more expensive in the smaller towns further out. A lot of folks subsidize this by hunting and processing their own meat. You can see this in the photo with the freezer and the deer\caribou hoist above the steps.

Gerties

Diamond Tooth Gerties Gambling Hall is a casino in Dawson City, Yukon, Canada. It was first opened in 1971 by the Klondike Visitors Association, making it Canada's oldest casino. Gerties, as it is better known, as well as most of Dawson City is reminiscent of the area's Klondike Gold Rush history.

Bunk House

Very basic accomodation in Dawson City, Yukon. It reminded me of youth hostels in Europe.

NWT Visitor Center

While in Dawson City, YT (Yukon Territory) we took an excursion along the Dempster Highway to Tombstone Territorial Park which is about two hours from the arctic circle.

Cladoniaceae

This is Cladoniaceae which is a family of lichens. It’s the primary food sources for large grazing animals in tundra and taiga environments like the caribou. The caribou use their antlers to dig through the snow and ice to reach these plants. Tombstone Territorial Park, Yukon
